Florida-licensed mental health counselors, clinical social workers and marriage & family therapists (MFTs) have an upcoming license renewal deadline of March 31, 2015. Licensees are required to renew their licenses biennially in order to maintain the right to practice.
Continuing Education (CE) Required for Renewal:
CE Required: 30 hours every 2 years, of which:
2 hrs Preventing Medical Errors in Behavioral Health is required each renewal
3 hrs Ethics & Boundaries in Psychotherapy is required each renewal
2 hrs Domestic Violence is required every third renewal
3 hrs Florida Mental Health Laws and Rules is required every third renewal
Online CE Allowed: 30 hours (no limit)
License Expiration: 3/31, odd years
National Accreditation Accepted: APA, NBCC, ASWB
Professional Development Resources is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA); the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC ACEP #5590); the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB #1046, ACE Program); and the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling (#BAP346) and is CE Broker compliant (all courses are reported within 1 week of completion).
The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling was legislatively established to ensure that every clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, and mental health counselor practicing in this state meet minimum requirements for safe practice. The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling is responsible for licensing, monitoring, disciplining and educating clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors to assure competency and safety to practice in Florida.
