District of Columbia-licensed Mental Health Counselors have a biennial license renewal with a December 31st deadline, even years. Forty (40) hours of board approved continuing education are required in order to renew a license. All forty hours are allowed from home study (online courses). In addition, six (6) hours of ethics and four (4) hours of trauma counseling are required at each renewal. The board accepts NBCC approval of continuing education hours.
The main reason for continuing education is to ensure the best standards for the mental health counseling profession. All licensees are required to participate in continuing educational activities that will build upon existing competence and knowledge gained from previous educational experiences.
Professional Development Resources is approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) to offer home study continuing education for NCCs (Provider #5590). We adhere to NBCC guidelines. Professional Development Resources is also approved as a provider of continuing education by the National Association of Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC, Provider #000279)
