South Carolina licensed social workers have a biennial license renewal with a deadline of December 31st, even years. Forty (40) board approved hours of continuing education are required to renew a license. All forty hours are allowed from online courses if ASWB-approved.

South Carolina Social Work Continuing Education
The main purpose of continuing education is to ensure the highest standards for the social work profession. All licensees are required to participate in continuing educational activities that will build upon existing competence and knowledge gained from previous educational experiences.
In order to maintain your license in the State of South Carolina, you must complete 40 hours of continuing education (CE) during the biennial renewal period.
Effective January 1, 2025 – South Carolina licensed social workers must receive at least one (1) hour of continuing education in suicide assessment, treatment, and management treatment, which may be completed virtually, as a portion of the required 40 hours of continuing education.
