This is a test only course (book not included). The book (or e-book) can be purchased from Amazon.
This CE test is based on the book “The Porn Trap” (2008, 288 pages). Research from the field of neuroscience has demonstrated that pornography has the addictive potential of drugs such as cocaine, and therefore is accompanied by similar hazards. The Porn Trap describes the allure and dangers of porn as an addiction, starting with an analysis of developmental, individual, social, and cultural influences on porn use. A model for recovery based on a stage model of change is then presented, addressing ways to build motivation to stop using porn, action steps for ending porn use, and a model of relapse prevention. The book also includes advice that can be offered to couples and parents.
Written as a self-help book, The Porn Trap also constitutes an informative presentation for therapists, including descriptions of typical cases and issues that have arisen in the authors’ extensive work as sex therapists. Complete with self-assessments, checklists, and illustrated diagrams of the recovery process, this book can be used as an adjunct to individual, couples, or group therapy. Therapists may also consider keeping a copy in their waiting room for clients to peruse at their leisure, since some clients might otherwise be hesitant to bring up the issue.
