Virginia-licensed SLPs have a biennial license renewal with a December 31st deadline, even years. Thirty (30) hours of continuing education are required to renew a license. All thirty hours are allowed from home study (online courses) if ASHA approved. The board accepts ASHA approval of continuing education hours.
The main reason for continuing education is to ensure the highest standards for the speech language pathologist profession. All licensees are required to participate in continuing education that will build upon existing competence and knowledge gained from prior educational experiences.

Continuing Education Requirements
Virginia-licensed speech language pathologists are required as a condition to renew a license to complete a minimum of thirty (30) hours of continuing education every two years, even years.
