Tennessee Social Worker License Renewal and Continuing Education

Licensed Tennessee Social Workers have an annual license renewal with a December 31st deadline. To renew a license, fifteen (15) hours of continuing education are required. Of the fifteen hours required, nine (9) hours of continuing education are allowed from home study (online courses), and five (5) hours of ethics are required for each renewal. Licensees are responsible for determining the appropriateness of the courses.

The main goal of continuing education credits is to assure the highest standards for the social work profession. All licensees are required to participate in continuing educational activities that will build upon existing competence and skill gained from prior educational experiences.

Professional Development Resources is approved as a provider of continuing education for social workers by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB Provider #1046, ACE Program).

Requirements for Continuing Education

Tennessee social workers are required as a condition of license renewal to complete a minimum of ten (10) hours of continuing educational experiences annually.
