What the Heck are ‘Test Only’ Courses?

‘Test Only’ CE courses are just that. The CE test. Only. No course materials are included. Nothing is shipped.

They were originally designed so that colleagues could share a course book, or online PDF, and all earn credit without having to pay the full course price.

They provide a means for earning CE credit after reading a published course book (which may be purchased through Amazon, or another source).

Here’s how it works:

  1. Purchase the ‘test only’ @ www.pdresources.org and print it out
  2. Purchase the book (or e-book) @ Amazon.com (or another source)
  3. Read the book and mark your answers on the printed test
  4. Login to your account @ www.pdresources.org to submit your test
  5. Receive a certificate of completion

The biggest benefit of purchasing books through Amazon is the cost savings. Amazon is able to offer course books at greater discounts than almost anyone else. They also provide free shipping on orders over $25 (in most cases). AND they are offering more and more books as kindle edition, meaning you can have instant access to the book to read on your computer or other reader (iPad, Kindle, Android, etc.).

Here’s an example:

We are offering the ‘test only’ for a book titled Autism Spectrum Disorders in Infants and Toddlers on closeout for $40. Completion of the book and test will earn you 7 hours of continuing education credit.

Autism Spectrum Disorders in Infants & Toddlers

So you can purchase the ‘test only’ from us for $40. Then head over to Amazon to download the e-book for $14.30. You’ll have instant access to both the CE ‘test only’ and the book.

Best of all, your total cost for 7-hours of CE credit is only $54.30!

(This is a savings $54.70 from when we used to provide the book and test together.)

Operation “Goodbye Books” Has Begun!

Operation "Goodbye Books" Has Begun

Gina holds countdown box - only 47 mail order courses left!

Just 9 days ago we announced our plan to discontinue the ‘mail order‘ courses from our course catalog. The books are disappearing so quickly that we decided to document the journey. (Back in August the bookshelf behind me was also full of books.)

We’ve also done some research on what this change will mean to you (our customer). The basic idea is that instead of buying the book and CE test from us, you’ll buy the book from Amazon (or another source) and order just the CE test (test only) from us. We’ve calculated Amazon’s prices with our Test Only prices and found that you will save 20% on average. We don’t know how Amazon does it, but we do know we can’t compete!

What are your thoughts? Please leave a comment; we’d love to hear from you!

“Test Only” CE Courses

Professional Development Resources offers a “test only” option for each of their continuing education courses, whether is it an online course, a mail order course, or a discontinued course. The “test only” is simply just that: the CE test ONLY. Course materials and/or books are not included. The point of this option is to allow you to receive continuing education credit for a course that you might already have the book for, or want to check out from the library. It also allows healthcare professionals to share course materials and save money by spliting the cost of the book or online course materials. You receive instant access to the online CE test, which you can complete online anytime.

Directions:

  1. After purchasing a Test Only course, go to My Courses of your account dashboard
  2. Click the link to attend the course under Current Courses
  3. Click the link to View/Print/Take CE Test (we recommend printing for use while reading the course materials, all tests are open-book, multiple-choice, 80% required to pass, 3 chances to take test)
  4. Read the course materials and mark your answers on your printed CE test
  5. When ready to receive credit – go back to My Courses – click link to View/Print/Take CE Test – mark your answers on the online test and submit when finished. Tests are instantly scored and results are only shown upon grading (scroll down to see answers missed).
  6. Submit Course Evaluation – your certificate is not generated until the evaluation has been submitted. Your certificate will be dated the day you submit the evaluation.
