Iowa Social Workers Continuing Education and License Renewal

Iowa-licensed Social Workers have a biennial license renewal with a December 31st deadline, even years. Twenty-seven (27) board-approved continuing education hours are required to renew a license. Of the forty hours, twelve (12) hours are allowed from home study. In addition, three hours of social work ethics are required at each renewal. The board accepts ASWB approval of continuing education hours.

The main purpose of continuing education is to assure the highest possible standards for the social worker profession. All licensees are required to participate in continuing educational activities that will build upon existing competence and skill gained from previous educational experiences.

Professional Development Resources is approved as a provider of continuing education for social workers by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB Provider #1046, ACE Program).

Continuing Education Requirements
