District of Columbia-licensed social workers have a biennial license renewal with a July 31st deadline. Forty (40) hours of continuing education are required in order to renew a license. Of the forty hours, twelve (12) hours are allowed from home study. Six hours of ethics are required and must be completed face-to-face (no online courses are accepted), and three hours of HIV AIDS training (allowed from home study) are required. National accreditation includes ASWB.
Continuing education assures the highest possible standards for the social work profession. All licensees are required to participate in continuing education as a condition of licensing.
Professional Development Resources is approved as a provider of continuing education for social workers by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB Provider #1046, ACE Program).
