On January 1, 2012, electronic transaction standards for insurance claims will change from Version 4010/4010A to Version 5010, paving the way for the release of ICD-10 in October 2013. All healthcare providers that are covered under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) will be required to comply with these new standards—beginning in less than four short months.
