Alaska Social Workers Continuing Education and License Renewals

Alaska social workers may earn up to 35 continuing education (CE) hours per renewal through online courses offered @pdresources.org

Social workers licensed in the state of Alaska have a biennial license renewal with a June 30th deadline, even years.

Alaska Social Worker Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

CE Required: 45 hours every 2 years, including –

  • 6 contact hours in substance abuse education
  • 6 contact hours in cross-cultural education (for the first biennial renewal, all 6 hours must include issues relating to Alaska Natives; for the second or subsequent biennial renewal, at least 3 hours must include issues relating to Alaska Natives)
  • 3 contact hours in professional ethics
  • 3 contact hours in teletherapy practice
  • 3 contact hours in suicide education

Online (Asynchronous) CE Allowed: 35 hours (10 hours must be live)

License Expiration: 6/30, even years

National Accreditation Accepted: ASWB

Notes

A licensee applying for renewal may not earn more than 12 contact hours of continuing education activities required under this section in one day.

A licensee applying for renewal may receive up to 3 hours of professional ethics continuing education credit online (asynchronous) once every biennial licensing period for each 150 minutes that the licensee attends a regularly scheduled board meeting.
